The Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity wrestled this weekend. On Friday, the girls traveled to Ovid-Elsie, and on Saturday, the Boys hosted the first annual Tryston Bancroft Memorial Tournament.

The Girls placed 14th out of 47 teams. An impressive feat when you consider The Redwings only have 4 girls.
Placing for the Lady Redwings were Olivia Pettigrew and Lori Morris. Olivia went 3-1 and took 2nd, falling to the number 1 ranked girl in the State. Lori went 2-2 and placed 4th. Haley Prohaska and Addy Ney also wrestled well against tough competition, but unfortunately, they couldn’t secure wins, both going 0-2.
The Boys are dealing with illness and injuries in key weights this weekend and struggled to get going early. They wrestled tough as the day went on, several of the duals were lost by a few points. They would ultimately go 1-4 on the day. Placing second for the Redwings were Reagan Ward with a 3-1 record, Abram Matice with a 3-1 record, and Tyler Riedel with a 4-1 record. Brody Abendroth went undefeated (5-0) and placed first. Brady Heibeck, Jaxson Densmore and Greyson Osborne went 2-1 on the day.
The Tournament was won by Mattawan High School, with Northwest High School placing 2nd and New Lothrop High School placing 3rd.

St. Johns wraps up the regular season with a trip to Eaton Rapids to wrestle against Haslett and Eaton Rapids. The JV will travel to Fowlerville on Friday to wrap up their season at the CAAC JV Tournament. Varsity Boys and Girls are in action at Holt for the CAAC Championships on Saturday.
