SJ Youth Football Families,
Over the weekend our SJYAA board took a vote and decided to cancel football for the 2020 season for 5th and 6th graders. It really came down to risk vs. reward for our boys in regards to several different factors. The restrictions and guidelines that were set in place from the MHSAA would make it incredibly difficult to teach the fundamentals of football to our kids. SJYAA believes in player development and our goal is to bring kids back year after year. We are also one of the few school districts lucky enough to offer face-face learning. We did not want football to unnecessarily jeopardize that. SJYAA will however be offering some skill development camps in the upcoming future. More information to come. Please trust that this decision was not an easy one and I know some feel differently, but from day one we have always put the safety our kids first.
If you have any questions or want anything clarified, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Respectfully,
Eric Pratl
SJ Youth Football Director
