13 competitive cheer teams competed at St. Johns High School on Friday night for a chance to take home the District 11-2 Trophy. In the end, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern took home the title, but the Redwings put on a great show for the packed crowd.
Competitive cheer consists of three rounds. The performances are technical, synchronized and amazingly athletic. Teammates and fans alike can be heard chanting and cheering for their teams before and during the routines. The final round consists of the more powerful, acrobatic stunts. This was the round the Redwings shined the brightest. They had added and been working hard on new moves for the performance. They could have gone with a simpler routine and taken a safer approach, but they went for it. There was a stumble in that final routine (which could be said about most of the teams), but the routine was amazing and we’re glad they went for it. Go Redwings!
