Redwing Swimmers Start Season at East Lansing Invite

The Redwing Swim and Dive team started their season later than they hoped but at a familiar event. Each season the Waverly Relays kick off the year with an all relay event. This year it was hosted by East Lansing.
The Redwings have a very small but talented team this year, lead by new Head Coaches Peter Sperry and Katelyn Childers. We look forward to the rest of the season.
200 Medley Relay
4th (2:09.53) Ethan Gibson -backstroke, Graham Harger – breastroke, Matt Thelen – butterfly, Sebastian Luce – freestyle.
400 IM Relay
2nd (4:32.54) Ella Schafer, Matt Thelen, Shane VanAbel, Koy Grams
400 Freestyle Relay
DQ – Preston Longoria, Ethan Gibson, Sebastian Luce, Graham Harger
500 Crescendo Relay
4th (5:05.3) Graham Harger 50 Free, Ella Schafer 100 Free, Preston Longoria 150 Free, Shane VanAbel 200 Free.
200 Backstroke Relay
4th (2:10.92) Ethan Gibson, Sebastian Luce, Matt Thelen, Koy Grams
The final event was the Swim of the Day!
200 Freestyle Relay
Koy Grams leads off the stacked Redwings 200 free relay. The Redwings are just off the pace, in 2nd place.
Preston Longoria inches the Redwings moves the Redwings closer to first with a solid swim.
Shane VanAbel’s third leg brings the Redwings even closer, within striking distance.
Freshman Ella Schafer starts slightly behind Dewitt’s anchor.
On the final lap its too close to call. Lane 2 St. Johns, Lane 4 Dewitt.
The scoreboard has not worked during the meet, no one is sure who got the win……..

1st (1:42.51) Koy Grams, Preston Longoria, Shane VanAbel, Ella Schafer.
The Redwings finished 4th overall as a team with a total of 164 points. A great meet to build on. Go Redwings!
