Callie Berkhousen

What got you started in sports?

“My parents, my dad, his whole family are very sporty.  My mom played basketball too. My older sister also played basketball at the time i started. My dad played a lot of sports.”  Callie has been playing basketball since two years old, dribbling a ball in their basement.

Who are some of your role models?

“Probably Isaiah Thomas.  And I also like #1 on the University of Michigan’s Basketball Team (Amy Dilk). I look up to my parents and I also look up to my grandma, both of my grandmas, but my dad’s mom.  She’s gone through a lot, she’s had cancer and she fought through it. She’s had other things but she’s always gotten through it.  She used to enjoy watching me play but it is getting harder for her to now.”

What do you like most about basketball?

“I like working with my dad.  Working on something that I can perfect kind of.”  Callie’s dad owns Cory’s Barber Shop in Carson City and coaches the girls JV basketball team there.  Callie has a chance to get a lot of gym time while her dad is coaching.

What kind of training do you do for basketball?

“I do cross country to stay in shape, I work out a little.  I also go to the gym a lot to shoot and do drills.”

Do you think sports help you in school?

“Yeah.  You have to have good grades in order to play sports, so it’s a privilege to play.”

What are your goals for the future?

“For basketball I want to play college ball for the University of Michigan.  I want to get good grades in school.”  Callie is still undecided on what she wants to study in college.

Tell us some of your favorites:

        • Favorite food, Ribs.  I like ribs a lot.
  • Favorite subject other than gym, ELA.  (English Language Arts)
  • Favorite Netflix shows, Friends and Gilmore Girls.
  • Music, I kinda like all music.
