Redwings vs Haslett

“This was by far our best effort of the season to date. Even though we didn’t get a win, we had great races the entire meet. The boys started out a little slow but at the 50 Freestyle they really kicked it in. Max was a double winner tonight. Sam won diving and Alec came through for us with a win in the Fly. We had quite a good number of big swims from just about everyone and the guys were solid right up to the end. All of our relays had good swims and that’s great to see at this point in the season,” said coach Kim Brewbaker. St. Johns swimmer Max Leasher won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.46 and also the 500 freestyle with a career best time of 5:30.05. Redwing diver Sam Hudgens won diving with a score of 216.50 and Alec Stewart touched in first for the Wings in the 100 Butterfly with a career best time of 1:04.20. “At this point in the season we’re focused on continued improvement and getting the guys ready for our League meet. Our season is winding down and we want their best performances to show up at that Championship meet. We’re on track for a really good finish and the team continues to train and perform well. That’s all we can ask and the guys are responding well,” added Brewbaker. St. Johns next competition will be at home when the host Swartz Creek on Tuesday Feb.11. They will finish their regular season on Thursday Feb. 13 with their Senior Recognition Night when they host Grand Ledge. Both meets will begin at 6:00 pm.

Redwings vs Fenton

“Fenton is a very good Division 2 team. They are much deeper than we are and it was very difficult to find a way to match up with them. We had a lot of guys swimming in events they hadn’t competed in yet this season. It was an opportunity for the coaches to see our guys perform in a different event and maybe find something new for them. We were pleased to see the guys continue to compete hard right up to the end. Against a team like this sometimes you can feel overwhelmed. We did see a good number of quality performances from both our swimmers and our diver so we remain optimistic in regards to where we stand right now,” said coach Kim Brewbaker. St. Johns diver Sam Hudgens won diving with his score of 208.75 and the Redwing team turned in 17 career individual best performances in the contest. St. Johns next competition will be Tuesday Feb.11 at home against Swartz Creek.
