January 16th vs Holt
On Thursday, January 16, St. Johns Boys swimming and diving team traveled to Holt High School for a dual meet. The Redwings lost the meet with the Rams by a score of 64-122.

“This was a very good meet for our guys. Even though we didn’t get a win, we had a tremendous number of personal best performances tonight. We knew going into this meet that we would have a tough time, but the entire team hung in there and battled right up until the end. This group continues to impress us with their resolve to do well regardless of the opponent and that speaks volumes of the character of our team. They never give up and that’s the mind set we strive for in each meet,” said coach Kim Brewbaker. The St. Johns diving corps led the way as all three SJ divers turned in personal best scores. In addition, out of 28 individual entries, the Redwing’s had 23 individual season best performances. “We don’t have any easy meets this season so our focus is on improving each week. We continue to train with the goal of turning in great scores and times when we reach the conference meet in February. This is a fantastic group to coach and we’re confident they will be rewarded for the hard work they put in with some great performances as we get closer to our Conference meet,” added Brewbaker. St Johns next competition will be Thursday, Jan. 23 when they host the DeWitt Panthers. The meet is set to begin at 6:00 pm.

January 14th vs Williamston
On Tuesday, January 14, St. Johns Boys swimming and diving team traveled to Williamston High School for a dual meet. The Redwings lost the meet with the Hornets by a score of 115-68.

“Williamston is one of this area’s top teams this season. They have a lot of depth which made it very difficult for us to match up with them. Our guys had a good night with many good performances. This was a pool none of our guys had ever competed in before and that made them a little apprehensive going in. Once we got going, they swam and dove great,” said coach Kim Brewbaker. Redwing swimmer, Shane VanAbel won the 200 Freestyle and diver Sam Hudgens won diving to take home the only individual wins for St. Johns. The Redwings turned in 22 individual best performances in the contest. “We have a lot of season left and a lot of good meets coming up so we hope to continue to see steady improvement. One of our goals this season is to have improvement from week to week and that’s what we’re getting out of the guys right now,” added Brewbaker. St. Johns next competition will be Thursday Jan. 23 when they host DeWitt.
